With Carola Butscheid I am co-founder and director of the Institute for Formative Psychology in Solingen, Germany. I have a private practice for individuals and small groups in the Netherlands and Germany. From 2005 – 2017, I had the honor of organizing the first digital archive of Stanley’s historical and current work, while living several weeks each year in Berkeley, often as a guest in his home.

My early professional training as a teacher in physical education and practitioner of psycho-motor and ‘Initiatische’ therapy led me to Stanley’s somatic work. From 1991 to 2018 I participated in many programs, including professional and private consultations with him. The teachings of Formative Psychology have a profound influence on me and on the people I work with.

The questions : How do I do this? How can I repeat it and then do it more or less? How can I use this experience? How does this change the way I am in the world and with myself? Experiences with Stanley changed the terms of self-knowing. He taught me that I am the tool from which I can learn and form my life. From my first workshop experience in Zurich where I learned to use my bodily experience as my guide, I have continued to deepen my understanding and experience of what it means to live a Formative life.
